FOR THE PARENTS

While TRIO is a service for our local middle and high school students, we firmly believe that our mission of supporting students starts at home.  We recognize and appreciate that you choose to share your kids with us, and want you to be informed about what we do and how we do it.

What does TRIO look like in schools?

Success Coach Schedules:

Monday/Wednesday:

Kristin @ West Caldwell

Sarah @ Hibriten

Tuesday:

Alternating Middle School Visits

Thursday:

Friday:

*These schedules are subject to change based on school events and Success Coachs' schedules.

Middle Schools:

Our Success Coaches visit every middle school multiple times a semester.  Typically, these visits will happen on Tuesdays.  While at the schools, Success Coaches will visit with students in small groups or 1:1 when possible to see how classes are going and to get student input on upcoming activities/events.  Success Coaches will also occasionally have a table at lunches to pass out info about TRIO and check in with students.

High Schools:

Each high school hosts a Flex session every morning.  TRIO will host Flex sessions typically at least once a week; these details can be found on each high school's Edficiency site.

We will also sometimes meet 1:1 or in small groups with students during our days at the high schools.  If students have specific needs -- i.e., working on scholarships, college applications, guidance on classes, or anything else -- they can reach out to their Success Coach directly and we'll schedule a time to meet during the school day.

Q:  How do I sign my child up for trips?

A:  Make sure 1, we have your correct email and 2, that both you and your child regularly check your email.  We require permission forms for our trips, which can be found in our TRIO offices.  If you are unable to fill out a form in person, please email Kristin (kring@cccti.edu) for an electronic copy. Also - please make sure you and your child are signed up for our Remind text messaing service.  You can do that here.

Q:  How many events can my child participate in?

A:  There is no limit or minimum requirement on how many events your student attends.  We want TRIO to be a positive addition to your students' lives.

Q:  Can my child attend everything?

A:  The short answer is no.  Certain trips will be designed for specific groups, i.e. middle school only or high school only.

Q:  Can I chaperone an event?

A:  No.  TRIO is funded to serve 500 students, and with numbers that large we are unable to vet and perform background checks on everyone.  In an attempt to keep things fair and our children safe, we are choosing not to utilize family/parent chaperones on trips.  We will never have more than 10 students per 1 staff member on any trip.

Q:  Does that mean I can't participate in anything with my child?

A:  Not necessarily!  We will occasionally host events designed for our TRIO students and their families.  For example -- in the summer, we host a "Welcome Back" event just before school starts.  That even will be open to our students and their families.

Q:  How do we decide what trips to take/colleges to tour?

A:  Each semester, we ask students their opinions on colleges and trips.  We use these responses to plan our events throughout the summer and school year.

Q:  Are there fees for TRIO or TRIO trips?

A:  Students will never have to pay for TRIO trips.  All travel, accommodations, and food will be paid for by TRIO.  The only thing students will ever need money for is if they choose to purchase souvenirs.

Q:  Why do participants have to be U.S. citizens?

A:  TRIO is funded through tax-payer dollars, so this is a legislative requirement.

Q:  How do we find out about events/trips?

A:  Check your emails!  We'll always send out emails to all students and families about upcoming events.  We're also currently working on a texting service, as well, so we're trying to cover all our bases!  We also utilize Remind Text Messaging Service, so make sure you've signed up here!
